Small groups are the best place to get connected and grow at Oakwood. We want to see people doing life together as they study God’s Word, experience life change, support one another through the challenges of life, as well as pray and care for one another. Joining a group at Oakwood is a great way to experience biblical community, strengthen your faith, build friendships and grow closer to God.
One newer option for our groups at Oakwood is to follow along with the Sunday messages with their personal study and group discussion. Over the last five years Oakwood has grown together through an annual church-wide sermon series and group study during the month of January. Many have benefited from the simplicty and synergy of this approach as their personal Bible study and small group discussions have helped to deepen both their understanding and application of God's Word. We're committed to providing this option for groups at Oakwood as we move forward. Resources for groups or individuals wishing to participate will be available from the church office and on the current message series page of our website.
WHEN and WHERE do small groups meet?
Oakwood’s small groups meet in a variety of locations both in homes and at the church campus. We have groups meeting every day of the week except on Saturdays. Most of our groups meet in the evenings for a couple of hours. We do have a few morning groups specifically for men and women. Take a look at the list on the back of this page or on our website to learn more.
What is the COMMITMENT that I need to make to a small group?
Most of our groups meet on a weekly basis in three different “semesters” each year – fall, spring and summer. Groups will meet anywhere from 8-12 weeks each semester and we encourage you to commit to a full semester, if possible. Of course, many people will stay with their group over the course of the full year or longer.
Can I attend as a SINGLE adult or WITHOUT MY SPOUSE?
Absolutely! Small groups are not just for couples and we have many single adults involved in our groups ministry. While couples are encouraged to attend group together, we understand this isn’t always possible.
Is CHILDCARE available?
Each group handles child care in different ways, as needed. We want our families to be connected in groups. If you need childcare in order to participate in a groups, contact Pastor Shane or talk to a group leader and see what options are available.
