After months of prayer and hard work, the Elders and pastor search committee officially presented Don Jackson as the candidate for Lead Pastor at Oakwood Community Church towards the end of February 2015. We had many opportunities throughout the month of March to get to know Don and his family leading up to the official candidate weekend of Friday through Sunday, March 27-29, 2015. At a special meeting on Sunday, March 29th, Pastor Don was affirmed by an overwhelming 99% of the congregation. The elders extended an official invitation to him that night and he graciously accepted, becoming Oakwood's newest Lead Pastor.
The elders sent out the following message to the church to announce Pastor Don's hiring as Oakwood's newest Lead Pastor:
Dear Oakwood family,
In the past few weeks, many of you took the opportunity to get to know Pastor Don Jackson and his family through a busy schedule that they graciously fulfilled. His life story testifies to God’s grace, sovereignty and love. His heart is that of a shepherd and his faith is noticeably marked with a joyous spirit. Hopefully you have been present as he has energetically brought God’s Word to our ears and hearts. In his 25 years of ministry, Pastor Don has developed a dynamic teaching style that is applicable to our lives, encourages strong discipleship and, most importantly, is firmly based on God’s Holy Word.
On Sunday night, as many of you know, Pastor Don was affirmed by an overwhelming 99% of the congregation. He was made aware of the affirmation, and since an agreement had already been made as far as compensation, Pastor Don Jackson is now officially the newest pastor of Oakwood Community Church. He will begin preaching as early as this Friday for Oakwood’s Good Friday service. He will also be bringing the message this Easter Sunday.
Pastor Don and his family need to sell their home in Battle Creek and find a home in our area. As they make this transition we ask for daily prayers for the Jackson family. There might also be a call to assist with this moving process and if you have a heart to serve in this way please let the elders know.
His transition from Vision for Youth needs to be done respectfully, professionally and with love and care for those who Don and his family have worked and prayed with over the years. We ask for your patience as this transition happens.
Please show Pastor Don, Julie, and their children Caitlin, Emily and Josh the love, warmth, compassion and respect that is so prevalent at Oakwood Community Church.
